The old meeting house at Reweti Marae had served its people well for many years. Over time it was decided that the whare would be put to rest. A team of whānau gathered to dismantle it. A temporary building was erected with the intention to build a new whare for the people of Reweti Marae. It was known as Whiti te rā.
There were many efforts and lots of input over the years to get us to the point where we were ready to open our new whare. Our whare was opened in 2024 and named Te Taoū. One of our greatest aspirations is to have carvings depicting the tupuna of Te Taoū and its long-standing histories in the south Kaipara.
